Liking the Lupe interest lately especially through /u/sugemchuge 's post here. I was getting questions about the leaked version of food and liquor so I decided to make this post. I might recycle some things i have said in the past:

Long story short:

Back when food and liquor was about to release in ‘06, it got leaked (surprise!). Lupe, furious, decided to change up the retail release by recording new songs, new verses and changing titles ariybd. In other words, the album that was released to the retail is the second version of Food and Liquor.

The original leaked version of F&L is, in my opinion, superior than the retail release; It was a better representation of the his food and liquor theme (ie duality, good and bad, etc) while maintaining the lyrical ferocity of his previous mixtapes. It was Lupe portraying his experiences, perspective, creativity, and environment in a cohesive package. If the leaked version was released as the retail version I believe that F&L would be even more highly regarded than it is today.

The track list:

1. Theme Music (to a Drive By)-- Lupe opens the album displaying his trademarks and style: ambitious storytelling, high rhyming efficacy, TMNT references, moral dilemmas, and precise imagery. All over a great prolyfic beat. Lupe ends the song with great string of “bar” wordplay.” Lupe has BARS.

2. You My - Sunshine in the retail version.

3. Ghetto Story: Lupe reminisces about the disparity in his upbringing. In these “ghetto stories” Lupe lays out all the terrible things he has seen, and walks the listener through his hood. Despite all the bleakness, Lupe believes that goodness can still come from it, himself being a primary example.

4. Spaze out: Lupe has always been as politically aggressive and anti establishment as he is now. Spaze out, over a marching beat and a chant-like chorus, has Lupe call to action ( the introduction has him rallying as if through a megaphone) ), a violent revolution.

5. Just Might be OK- Same as retail version.

6. Trials and Tribulations-- this is an alternate verison of “Pressure” with new verses and a missing jay feature. Lupe goes off in this lyrical tour de force continuing his nerdy gangster persona and social economic agenda ( see: 'I haven't turned into guns like Megatron.)

7. Make Sure- A ghetto love story turned into a political allegory ( classic Lupe!)

8. Real Recognize Real--l lays the ground work for Michael Young Saga. The metonymy with Michael, the streets, and the game is unreal. In true food and liqour thematic fashion, after all the ills and personification of his characters Lupe describes some righteousness in it all...

9. Hustlaz Song- Lupe’s narrative puts you in the POV of a hustler.

10. Never Lies- The Instrumental on the retail version. Think: parable of the cave.

11. No Place to Go - Hurt Me Soul on the retail version.

12. GameTime- Bumpin!! Lupe summarizes himself pretty well here.
